14 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do in Liverpool

1. Pedalos & Rowing Boats at Sefton Park

Did you know you could go out on a pedalo or rowing boat at Sefton Park? Well, you can! The pedalos first made an appearance at the park in 2012, and have since returned for our enjoyment.
You can hire a pedalo or rowing boat from Thursday 4th August, which are must-do activity on a sunny day in the city. What’s more, the pedalos and rowing boats are operated by the charity Local Solutions, and cost just £5 to hire from Thursdays to Sundays from 11am to 4pm.

2. Seecret Tours

4. View Bowie’s Guitar

Here’s a little attraction you might not know about; you can view David Bowie’s guitar at The Beatles Story. His Hagstrom twelve-string guitar has been on display since 11th July and will continue to be for three years. The guitar featured on many of Bowie’s classic albums, including Space Oddity and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust.

The guitar features at The Beatles Story due to the Starman’s friendship with John Lennon, as the pair became pals when Lennon left The Beatles, and they went on to write the song Fame together.

5. Formby Footprints

Many people maybe unaware that prehistoric footprints occasionally appear along the Formby Point foreshore. For approximately 3,000 years, animals, birds and people have left their tracks in the muddy shoreline.

The National Trust and Sefton Coast Landscape Partnership currently offer a number of organised guided walks throughout the year, with the Liverpool Museum offering professionally-led Archaeology Taster Sessions.

6. The Hidden Histories Experience

The Hidden Histories Experience is unlike anything else in Liverpool. As this theatrical city walk is also a treasure hunt, with participants having 90 minutes to collect information, solve puzzles and visit hidden spots in the city, where they will discover forgotten relics, meet historical characters and embark on a mission to save Liverpool.

Got a problem with your bike? Fancy a nice cup of joe? Take yourself along to Ryde, which is a new cycle coffee shop. Here you can grab a coffee whilst they mend your bike. You can also take your pick from plenty of cake. So, if you’re in need of a replacement bike chain, head to The Courtyard at Brewery Village.

8. The Pay As You Feel Café

The Real Junk Food Café is salvaging waste from supermarkets, restaurants and other sources to create delicious, healthy meals for the public. The Everton café allows diners to enjoy a meal on a pay-as-you-feel basis, so you simply buy a dish based on how much you feel it was worth.

The café was launched to educate the public on how to reduce food waste, whilst providing healthy meals to anyone who wants one. You can experience the pay-as you-feel café on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm, and Sundays from 11am to 4pm.

9. Old Dock Experience

Did you know you can take a tour of the old dock, which has been carefully preserved under Liverpool One? The Old Dock has been buried since 1826 and was discovered during excavations in 2001. You can now explore the bed of the pool, which gave Liverpool its name, every Tuesday, and school tours are available every Wednesday.

10. Wakeboarding

Whether you are a sporty person or not, there’s no reason why you can’t visit the Liverpool Wake Park at the Albert Dock and learn how to wakeboard. Your age, ability, fitness level or size won’t make a difference, everyone can learn to wakeboard – and they even promise to give you your money back if you’re not riding a wakeboard on your first session.

Theatre, history and folklore come together to create one of the spookiest tours in the city, as you’ll have the heebie jeebies as you’re guided around the city’s eeriest streets. 13. Take a Backstage Tour of the Everyman

The Liverpool Everyman first opened in 1964 and has since produced a number of exciting plays and incredible talent. Just some of the thespians to grace the theatre’s stage include David Morrissey, Jonathan Pryce, Pete Postlethwaite, Julie Walters, Matthew Kelly, Alison Steadman, Bill Nighy, to name but a few. The theatre continues to offer cutting-edge theatre featuring exceptional actors, which is why you just have to take a backstage tour of this building, which was renovated in 2014.

The backstage tours are subject to the theatre’s production programme, and you will gain an insight into how the Everyman makes their productions and the history of this remarkable company. Individual tours are limited during the year, but you can also book on as a group.

14. The First Waterfront Beach Club

The Liverpool Waterfront now offers its first beach club, as part of this summer’s Liverpool Village. Here you can sip champagne and enjoy gourmet BBQ as you enjoy the beautiful views.
